The Krannert Center Student Association (KCSA) was formed in 1969 to serve the University of Illinois and Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. In the ensuing years, the group has expanded to become one of the largest and most diverse registered student organizations on the University of Illinois' Urbana-Champaign campus.
KCSA promotes the performing arts on the UI campus and within the community by providing volunteer opportunities for students in Krannert Center productions. Each year more than 300 KCSA members lead hundreds of tours, usher over 300 performances, and work on backstage technical crews for numerous Krannert Center events and productions.
KCSA also produces a variety of special events including Murder Mystery Dinner, a monthly open-mic night; the annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony; A Taste of the Arts and International Festival (I-Fest), family-oriented activities that highlight the arts of a variety of cultures; and On the Rocks, a series of one-act plays written, directed, acted, and produced by students under the stars in the Krannert Center Amphitheatre. KCSA also plans a variety of social activities for its members, from horseback riding and canoe trips to excursions to arts events in other cities.
